Technology Instrumental for Land, Water Resource MGNT in Ethiopia: Minister of MoWE
Addis Ababa October 23/2024 (ENA)-Technology application is instrumental to ensuring land and water resource management in Ethiopia, Minister of Water and Energy Habtamu Itefa said.
Stakeholder meeting on results of development projects by the Czech Republic in Ethiopia organized by the Ministry of Water and Energy held in Addis Ababa today.
Opening the meeting, Minister of Water and Energy Habtamu Itefa said technology application is instrumental for monitoring, planning, land management and water resource management.
Citing that Czech Republic experts have been engaging in Ethiopian institutions in the water sector, he said having appropriate information is critical to exploit our ground water.
He stressed that Ethiopia needs some good experiences in technology application from Czech Republic for water monitoring and planning, among others.
There have been some landslide incidents in various places in Ethiopia recently, he said, adding having proper data is vital to forecast a potential danger and save life.
Ambassador of Czech Republic to Ethiopia Miroslav Kosek noted hydrogeological research is crucial for Ethiopia’s future and it provides a reliable data that needed to understand the country’s geological structures and water resources.
This information supports better planning for landscapes and sustainable land use and helping to make effective decision of managing these resources, he pointed out.
Commending the strong partnership with the Ministry of Water and Energy, the Ambassador said by working together, we ensure that research results are used to guide national water and land management strategies as well as to identify infrastructure and business opportunities.
For the Ambassador, Czech and Ethiopia share vision of using innovation and technology to address challenges including advanced water treatment technologies which can also stimulate trade and investment in the two countries.
State Minister of Water and Energy Abraha Adugna said for his part that there are various areas in the country with short of rainfall as exploiting the groundwater is essential to ensuring sustainable and resilient alternative resources of water.
Stressing the need to have an advanced technology, and coordinated and systematic approach, he underscored that the use of systematic and integrated mapping is instrumental to properly exploit the country's water resources.
Czech and Ethiopia have enjoyed a long-standing relationship characterized by cooperation and solidarity, it was learned.
