Ethio-telecom Plans to Reach 15 Cities with 5G Mobile Network Services During Current FY

Addis Ababa November 10/2024 (ENA)-Ethio Telecom announced that it is working to expand its 5G mobile network services to 15 cities across Ethiopia in the current fiscal year. 

Ethio Telecom launched its 5G mobile network service in Bishoftu city of Oromia Region. 


 

The launch program was attended by officials and invited guests, including Ethio Telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamiru. 

On the occasion, the CEO recalled that her company has been providing services to Ethiopians for the past 130 years. 

The company has been benefiting its customers from various technologies that have been in service globally over the past six years, she said. 

Currently, she stated that Ethio Telecom is working to make digital Ethiopia a reality, noting that the 5G service has a significant contribution to boosting the country's economy and creating jobs. 

The 5G mobile network service launched in the city of Bishoftu will create another technological potential for the city in its natural grace, she added.  

Ethio Telecom is working to build its Smart Bishoftu, adding that the newly launched 5G mobile network service is part of this effort. 

Frehiwot revealed that the 5G mobile network is being rolled out in several cities and is being developed to benefit additional 15 cities in the current Ethiopian Fiscal Year.  

According to the CEO, Ethio telecoms is carrying out activities aimed at increasing productivity and improve the livelihoods of citizens, citing the more than 51 million customers that have already benefited from telebirr, a mobile payment service developed and launched by the company. 

Ethio Telecom has expended its 4G mobile network service in more than 400 cities and now has 79 million mobile service users.
