German Parliamentarians Reaffirm Support for Ethiopia’s Health System
Addis Ababa November 21/2024 (ENA) Members of the German Parliament have renewed their commitment to continue their support for improving Ethiopia’s healthcare system.
The parliament members further emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration in the health sector.
In the early hours of this morning the parliamentarians held discussion with State Minister of Health, Dr. Dereje Duguma and reviewed Ethiopia’s healthcare framework, focusing on targeted interventions to improve health services and ensure impactful outcomes.
The talks highlighted the significant contributions of the German organization DSW (Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevölkerung) in Ethiopia, particularly in advancing health initiatives for youth and adolescents.
During the discussion, Dr. Dereje highlighted key areas of focus including raising awareness about sexual and reproductive health to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, and enhancing access to family planning services.
DSW's efforts in fostering partnerships between local health facilities and communities were also commended.
The state minister further noted that DSW's initiatives have been instrumental in equipping Ethiopian youth and adolescents with critical health knowledge, thus reducing their vulnerability to diseases. He emphasized the organization's exemplary work in integrating youth with health services and empowering them to become informed and productive citizens.
The parliamentarians visited healthcare facilities to observe services provided to youth and adolescents.
They expressed their commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery, particularly for vulnerable groups, by improving service accessibility and capacity building.
The delegation reaffirmed Germany's financial and technical support for Ethiopia's health sector, particularly in combating infectious diseases and building a resilient health system.
Their visit underscored the shared goal of fostering a healthy and productive generation while addressing critical health challenges in Ethiopia, according to the Ministry of Health.
This collaboration reflects a broader commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s journey towards sustainable health system reform and improved health outcomes for its citizens.
