Ethiopia to Host Africa Peace Conference Showcasing Commitment to Regional, Global Stability

Addis Ababa November 22/2024 (ENA) Addis Ababa will be hosting the Africa Peace Conference, a platform to demonstrate Ethiopia's significant contributions to continental and global peace, the Ministry of Peace announced.

Under the theme “Building a Prosperous and Peaceful Africa,” the conference will convene in the upcoming week from 24th    and 26th November 2024, in the Ethiopian capital, according to a statement from the Ministry.

In his press briefing, State Minister of Peace, Keyredin Tezera pointed out that over 400 participants, including African ministers and high-level dignitaries, are expected to attend.

This continental conference will be focusing on Africa’s peace and security challenges, with participating nations sharing experiences and strategies to promote sustainable peace, the state minister elaborated.

Keyredin further emphasized that the conference will highlight Ethiopia’s active role in advancing peace across Africa, particularly in countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Sudan, and Somalia.

He underscored Ethiopia’s critical contributions to peacekeeping missions and its leadership in conflict resolution. 

Beyond Africa, Ethiopia has played a pivotal role in global peace efforts. For example, its successful deployment in the Korean War peacekeeping missions has been recognized as a model of excellence.

Ethiopia's engagement in United Nations peacekeeping missions also underscores its unwavering commitment to global stability and security, Keyredin noted.

Additionally, Ethiopia has embarked on a nationwide reconciliation process through its established National Dialogue Commission, reflecting the country’s dedication to fostering inclusive governance and national unity.

The Ethiopian Green Legacy Initiatives (GLI) and other development programs will also be highlighted during the conference, demonstrating their impact on peace and socio-economic progress. 

The event will feature a peace exhibition, panel discussions, and guided tours, providing participants with an opportunity to explore Ethiopia’s rich cultural heritage and its efforts to champion peace beyond its borders. 

Through this conference, State Minister Keyredin revealed that Ethiopia seeks to reaffirm its pivotal role in promoting peace and sustainable development across Africa and the world.
