Innovation & Technology Minister Belete Emphasizes Importance of Collaborations for Enhanced Asia-Africa Innovation and Technology
Addis Ababa December 20/2024 (ENA)—Ethiopia’s Minister of Innovation and Technology, Belete Molla stressed the need for reinforcing collaborations to enhance the Asia-Africa innovation and technology development endeavors.
The Ministry of Innovation and Technology held discussion on ways of possible collaborations with the Asian-African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AACCI).
The discussion aims to further strengthen ties between Asian and African countries in the fields of innovation and technology, it was learned.
During the discussion, Minister of Innovation and Technology Belete Molla explained Ethiopia's ongoing endeavors on digital transformation, innovation, and sustainable technology solutions.
Ethiopia considered the aforementioned spheres as pillars of the country's growth strategy, the minister revealed.
He added his ministry is prioritizing the development of a strong innovation ecosystem by stimulating startups, technology transfer, research and development.
He also reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment for partnerships with international bodies and private sector actors for further innovation and technology advancement.
Belete also stressed the importance of strengthening the sector's ongoing efforts to ensure that Ethiopia remains at the forefront of technological development in the region, as well as collaborating with international organizations such as AACCI.
Collaborations to carry out innovation and technology development activities in a coordinated manner among Africans should be supported.
On his part, Chairman of the Asian African Chamber of Commerce & Industry (AACCI), Dr. GD Singh, noted that Ethiopia is making commendable progress in innovation and technology sphere.
He also expressed his desire to work together to support the East African nation’s endeavors and achieve this goal.
Singh further urged Ethiopia to focus on startup development, technology transfer, human resource development and business activities in the sector.
The two sides discussed the need for greater cooperation in technology transfer, research and capacity building to boost industrial growth in Ethiopia and across Africa.
