Ten-Day Training for Foreign Affairs Staff and Volunteer Cadets Concludes

Addis Ababa December 27/2024 (ENA)—The groundbreaking ten-day training program for the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and volunteer cadets concluded today, marking a significant milestone as the first of its kind in Ethiopia.

The closing ceremony was graced by Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos and other senior officials.

The training, which was led by officials from various government ministries and organizations, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focused on key issues related to the upcoming 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government and the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union. These important meetings are set to be held in Addis Ababa in February 2025.

During the closing ceremony, Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos expressed his gratitude to the volunteers for their dedication and commitment to supporting Ethiopia's role as the diplomatic hub of the continent.


 

The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of their contributions to the nation's international engagements.

State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, also addressed the gathering, expressing her confidence that the upcoming AU Summit would be a success.

The State Minister acknowledged the smooth execution of the training at the Africa Leadership Excellence Academy (AFLEX) and extended her heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in its preparation and implementation.


 

More than 200 volunteer cadets and staff of the ministry were selected for this intensive training program, it was learned. 

In addition to the Foreign Minister, the closing ceremony at AFLEX was attended by State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, Government Communications Services State Minister Tesfahun Gobezay, and Institute for Foreign Affairs (IFA) Executive Director Jafar Bedru.

The successful completion of this training program underscores Ethiopia's commitment to enhancing its diplomatic capabilities and ensuring effective participation in significant continental events.

It highlights the nation's dedication to preparing its representatives to uphold Ethiopia's esteemed position in African and global diplomacy.
