Epiphany Celebrated in Ethiopia’s Historic Gondar City Highlighting City's Cultural, Spiritual Significance

Addis Ababa, January 19, 2025 (ENA)—Ethiopian Epiphany (Timket) has been celebrated colorfully in the historic city of Gondar underscoring the city's cultural and spiritual significance in the presence of President Taye Atske Selasie, other senior government officials, religious leaders, foreign visitors, and numerous devotees.  

On the occasion, President Taye emphasized that maintaining peace and stability is crucial to ensure the continuity of the development achievements in Gondar City.

"This is a pivotal time for Gondar to reach the heights of growth it deserves. He emphasized that peace must be preserved for the city to achieve rapid development," the President emphasized.

President Taye reiterated maintaining peace is the responsibility of every citizen and called for the protection and preservation of the development initiatives in Gondar for future generations.

 

He also held discussions yesterday with representatives of the City on the ongoing development projects, good governance practices, and maintaining peace and security within the region.

The President affirmed that the government is committed in fulfilling the development aspirations of Gondar City while ensuring compatibility with its rich historical legacy.

He mentioned Gondar's unique place in Ethiopia's history, acknowledging its significant role in the nation's civilization, political system, and nation-building efforts.

 

The city's rich historical significance is evident in the cultural artifacts and heritage passed down through generations of past leaders, he pointed out.

The President underscored the importance of preserving and building upon the wisdom and developmental achievements inherited from previous generations, reflecting the ingenuity of their forefathers.

He commended Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's firm commitment to addressing the development needs of Gondar and the broader region.

"The Government is committed to fulfilling the development desires of Gondar in a manner that is compatible with its glorious history," President Taye remarked.

President Taye also acknowledged the presence of elements within Gondar who oppose reform and progress, actively seeking to disrupt development efforts.

He emphasized the crucial need for the people of Gondar to remain united in their resistance to these disruptive forces, safeguarding the progress achieved through development reforms, urging the people to resolve any challenges through peaceful dialogue and discussions.
